querencia

Early Tuesday evening, Colin called to say he had found a nature preserve nearby, and would I want to explore it with him? Of course I said yes, and quickly grabbed my camera for a spontaneous photography adventure.

We hiked the path, stopping every so often to photograph something that caught my eye. We came upon fallen logs, fungi, and even a pair of lovebirds kissing on the docks. It was all very nice, but I couldn’t contain my amazement when the path ended at the most beautiful landscape near the waters edge:

It was so peaceful and serene. After snapping a few photos, I joined Colin in reading the informational sign and noticed this perfect quote:

It was a spontaneous exploration- so much so that I forgot about the dinner I had planned to make that night- and we’ve already mapped out other preserves in the area to visit sometime soon.

my secret garden

On a day with no plans, I got the urge to photograph something beautiful. The Cummer Museum Gardens came to mind from a visit sometime last year, and I zipped over to catch the last hour before closing.

I had the garden all to myself, and took my time focusing on lines, composition and arrangement. It was pretty perfect, as I didn’t have to worry about anyone stepping into my frame, or being rushed along so someone else could enjoy the scenery.

Although there weren’t as many flowers as I had hoped for, I found a few, and focused mainly on the other greenery and statues.

Soon enough the museum attendant spotted me, complimented my hat, and kindly let me know that the garden would be closing in just a few minutes.
